In the province of Surkhandarya in the far south of Uzbekistan there is a fertile valley that is flooded from a large water reservoir. The town of Kumkurgan is located in this valley, almost next to the reservoir and it is where a greenhouse is planned for the production of crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. The greenhouse is planned on the west side of the city, against the steppe and desert.
The climate is mild in winter and warm in summer, so greenhouse cultivation will be limited to the coldest months. At the request of the local business community and in consultation with the government, Livingstone has received a DHI grant to investigate the feasibility of a greenhouse in this area. The report is expected to be ready in Q3 of 2021.
