Livingstone Ventures brings science and practice together
The world’s population is increasing quickly, and it is predicted to grow to almost 10 billion people in 2050. Fortunately, our prosperity is also predicted to increase, which means that diets will be subject to change.
High tech production of food is an opportunities and strategies for sustainable and reliable global and local food systems that contribute to healthier diets, create food security and end malnutrition. The key knowledge challenge is to bring together the different perspectives on and assess the trade-offs between sustainable consumption and healthy nutrition, robust supply chains and climate-smart production systems. A lot needs to be done to address the increase in food demand sustainably. The Livingstone Ventures is implementing the knowledge and technology to contribute to guaranteeing worldwide food safety sustainably. We believe that our solutions will contribute not a more effective use of farmland which will decrease the coming years due climate change and population growth whilst water, phosphate and fuel become scarcer.
Food Hub Projects are monitored and advised agricultural universities, universities for applied sciences and institutions for agricultural training.
A section of the project can be reserved for research and training programs. Growing complexity of food production in the face of the factors such as demands for sustainability, the impact of climate change, ‘local-for-Local’ issues and the global spread of serious crop pests and diseases, means that a skilled university graduates are needed. By collaborating with local universities in this project, students can be introduced to state-ofthe-art technics and increase their market value.
As most of the program is done directly on the job, learned skills can be applied directly and working live can be combined with training.
In the Netherlands, there is a long-term tradition of agricultural education to foreigners at all levels. The Food Hub Project cooperates with four of the most acclaimed institutes on agricultural education who are specialized in education on all levels of agriculture, from production. Operating as a sustainable organization will continue to present challenges for staff and stakeholders as Food Hub products has to adapt to a constantly changing world. Food Hub Projects will continue develop and align its capability and skill profile to meet the opportunities of the market.
Flexibility is an essential part of the management policy. Flexibility is necessary to respond to the constantly changing environment and technology.
The policy of the management is to look for opportunities beyond tradition and to identifying new or untested approaches. These innovations are important to make meaningful changes to improve organisation programs, services and processes in order to create new value for the organization’s stakeholders.
The Livingstone Ventures wants to help Agricultural Universities to step up to the next level of greenhouse production and wants to be a springboard for improving food production throughout the world.
